Thanks for your honest comments. Please remember, as bad as you may feel about yourself (which, honestly, I wish I could help you with, but that's really something you have to give yourself), there are three million women who feel worse about themselves. Don't let it stop you.[jmf1968]

Very nice entry. I love your wit. I saw this the other day and thought it was humorous. "Why is it that when you blow in a dog's face it gets annoyed, but the first thing it does when you take it in the car is stick it's head out the window?" and "If vegetable oil is made from vegetables and peanut oil is made from peanuts, what is baby oil made out of?"[jmf1968]

You seem to know much more about history and political science than I do. I don't know if I would agree with all you say if I had a better understanding, but you've provided some very specific information to challenge me to learn more. I appreciate your sincerity and seriousness in expressing your concerns. Your writing frequently challenges me to think and to research topics about which you write.[NightListener]

On the main channels (the ones I listen before) there isn't much American TV apart from a couple of series like Desperate Housewifes, CSI etc but thats usually after 9pm. Great post. The only thing I would say is pregnant women would need to wear shirts because while lactating, that could be unhygienic and unsanitary.

Double standards and modesty
|
At entrances to beaches they could post wooden profiles of men and women designed to mark the limits of acceptability: "If distance from your shoulder blade to your nipple exceeds this distance, you must cover your chest." Of course then we could get into needing a separate set of profiles to evaluate bellies, waistlines, and behinds as well. Different people feel differently about nudity and revealing the body. Those who enjoy exposing themselves should have a place to do so and those who feel more modest should have places not to have to be exposed or feel confronted by the exposure of others. That's why we have both nude beaches and convents. [NightListener]

Double standards and modesty
|
The adulterer/adulteress double standard was also present in Biblical times. The Levitical law required both to be stoned to death, yet, in John 8:4, the Pharisees tell Jesus "This woman was taken in adultery, in the very act." If they caught her in the very act, where was the man? I think the bare nipple point you bring up is a good one. Why should men be allowed to go topless but not women? In society's where women do go topless, there isn't so much objectifying of women as in America. Female breasts probably wouldn't arouse men so much if it was common place for them to be exposed. Personally, I like it when both men and women keep their shirts on. However, if I was raised in a society with bare-chested men and women walking around, maybe seeing female breasts wouldn't be a big deal and not a lusting point, like it is now. [WeirdChristian]

As far as organic food goes I really think that is the biggest scam since you could "buy" your way into heaven in Midevil Europe. I say that because your GMOs and foods exposed to chemicals are vigeriously tested before they ever hit the market..they are safe..very safe. Not to mention if this organic food thing continues there will never be enough food in the world to feed the 6 billion people...heck right now there isn't enough the way it is! GMO is great food..you can manipulate the crop to grow in dryer..or wetter environments...to have higher yeilds and all that other great stuff! I think rather than feeling better by eating organic food..you should feel better about GMO..cause it's a great technology that needs your support to feed the rest of the world!

I agree with you, mostly, though I have another point of view. I take Symbyax. The benifits of taking it far out way the risks. I am a zombie without it. I can't function without it. That is me talking, not my doctor. He put me on it as a last ditch effort to help me solve my depression and my black hole feelings.
Maybe it will cause me problems in the future. I hope someday that there is something natural for me take. Something that will help me cope. Until then, I take it happily, every day, thankful that SOMETHING in the world helps me with my dilemma. [SteeleBlack]

I agree with all that certainly. Humans are hooked all across the globe, it's ridiculous and most pharmaceutical drugs are not needed they're advertised on television as "ask your dr. if xxx is right for you" like the doctor wouldn't already know if it was right or not. It's just another way to rake in billions. People are so weak and mentally frail they buy into all of it so they have an excuse to continue being peons instead of shedding their psycho somatic dysfunctions. And these physicians get a little extra slice of the action for pushing these pills on people. I recently let go of my own doctor for that reason, and it was a shame but when he started suggesting this roostertail of prescriptions I knew damn well I didn't need all from the same drug manufacturer it was enough for me to take a step back and really think about how corrupt it has gotten.

prejudice,slavery and injustice

I think this kind of information is helpful in that it reminds us of who we are as a people and helps us to appreciate the value of diversity in our culture. So much of our history that we took for granted a half centuray ago neglected some of the stains on our past and ignored some of the ininquities that existed at that time. The more our sense of who we are includes diversity as part of our identity the more likely we are to evenutally heal the wounds left open by the faiulure of our founders to eliminate slavery as an instutituion thus necessitating a Civil War to set into motion events that would force us to reconcile the basic tenets of our constitution with the basic rights of all who consider themselves Americans whether by birth or by choice.[NightListener]

Chow Chow, or Chow, is a breed of dog that originated in China[1], where it is referred to as Songshi Quan (Pinyin: sōngshī quǎn 鬆獅犬), which literally means "puffy-lion dog." It is believed that the Chow Chow is one of the native dogs used as the model for the Foo dog, the traditional stone guardians found in front of Buddhist temples and palaces. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chow_Chow All chow are dogs, but not all dogs are chow, at least not until after the Chinese Olympics. When West meets East, and East meets West, better wear a bib or vest, for it's likely you will barf when your chow begins to "Aarf!!" [NightListener]

I was sitting here laughing because when I got to the part about as "wife candy," I happened to be eating for the first time m&m's Premiums which appear not to melt in the hands even though the crispy outter shell has been replaced by a softer thinner coating. I guess those m&m's could be considered "husband nipples" as they are rolled on the lips and the tip of the tongue and nipped at gently with the teeth. I agree that nipples were at least in part designed to be erogneous zones. I love my nipples. They're sort of like electric eyes which allow garage doors to close only while contact is being made between the two units. When contact is made one knows one is off to a good start and that all systems are go. Some people think of the tonsils as an erogenous zone and other people just fantasize about it being erogenous. I suppose the appendix could be an erogenous zone if used as such after it has been removed. I could go on but I've probably already crossed enough lines and have probably made a case for my brain being categorized as being a useless organ. [NightListener]

Hmm, I honestly do not know what the current function of the appendix is, but I have this question for you. Since you believe that it has a valuable function, then how is it that it can be removed without any harm to the person? And as for nipples, are you aware that until a certain point in the gestational process both males and females develop in exactly the same way? It is only after testosterone and androgen is produced in males that they start to develop differently. That is why men and women both have nipples. [Aphrodite265]

It's fine to just vent, but since you invited comments, here goes: - Put flourescent colored stickers on the black buttons on a black console to be able to see more clearly the buttons you use. You can even get glow-in-the-dark stickers for low light conditions. Where yo have some control, put in better lighting in areas where you'd like to be able to see better.
- Mark the volume control buttons on stereos and TV’s with phosphorescent paint or nail polish at the center of where you generally like to set the adjusment.
- Find places for small foreign objects other than the top of your dryer.
- Maybe you can find the 3-minute video or 30 second commercial on YouTube. If so, you won't have to tape it. If the commercial represents a regular sponsor for a show you regularly watch, perhaps you could anticipate when the commercial will be on and be prepared. Or if you have 2 VCR's you can tape the whole show and copy the part yo want onto another tape.
- I don't have any ideas about how to prevent machines from chewing tapes.
- Clean the refrigerator regularly--perhaps one shelf at a time per day. Also rotate foods on the shelf. You can even make a printed checklist of foods you regularly keep in and print out a blank copy weekly to notate expiration dates or inventories or shelf locations. Since not all foods spoil or develop fungus, you only need to be aware of those that do. Refrigeration inhibits the growth of bacteria but not fungus and that is how mold develops. Your idea about the central axis with turning shelves (lazy susan style) I believe has been done before, but it's still a good idea to the extent that round shelves will work with rectangular refrigerators.
I enjoys your musings. [NightListener]

A refrigerator with 'lazy susan' shelving... that probably would not be so hard to do.
I feel for you with the button color thing. My dvd/vcr player is silver... with silver everything. The buttons are silver, the letters on the buttons are silver. You can't even see what is what in normal lighting let alone a dim light and of course! I can never find the remote control. If I want to watch a movie I have to get out a flashlight.

Punish the victim part 2

Traditions that view people as property force both the oppressed and the oppressors into traps associated with adhering to tradition or being stigmatized as traitors or infidels. We can criticise Arab countries, but in honesty the history of slavery in the United States, of colonialism in Europe, and of other forms of domination around the world indicate that Arab countries are not alone in establishing a class of second- and third-class people viewed as inferior or as property. Once people are dehumanized, categorized, stigmatized, and polarized, it becomes easier to deprive people of their rights than to stand up for them at the risk of being ostracized oneself. Steve Austin( the six million dollar man) I've heard about the six million dollar man but I don't think that I have ever seen it. Jaime Sommers( the bionic woman) I saw the new version but it wasn't very good Michael Austin(the return of the six million dollar man and the bionic woman) Never seen it. Robocop He was cool Inspecter Gadget I think I had a crush on the girl when I was little besides that I didn't really like it (too much of a flake) the ''good terminators''(TERMINATORS 2,3) I always thought that the terminators were androids. Doc Kreuger( SPACE RANGERS) Wow, that is old. He was cool. Alyssa( THE ANIME movie GUNDRESS) I can't stand anime Seven of nine(Star trek voyager) She was okay. Nothing but a sex symbol really. OR OTHER, Forge from the X-Men was cool. I think that Luke Skywarker was a cyborg. Ash from Army Of Darkness had a machancal hand, not really cybernetic though. I respect your attempt to reconcile your beliefs around the concept of "hate the sin; love the sinner." Your approach indicates your desire to be loving, non-judgmental and affirming of individuals and their differences while maintaining your integrity with regard to the tenets of your belief system. My first reaction is to disagree with some of your assumptions, but since my reaction is based on many assumptions of my own, there's no point in my setting forth a disagreement since I don't trust my "proof" any more than I trust yours. But that's not your problem. It's mine, and I'll deal with it. I do trust my intuition, however, and perhaps that is both a strength and a problem, and once again, I'll deal with both the comfort and the consequences of my beliefs. All I can conclude is that isn't it interesting that you feel and think the way you do and I think and feel as I do. I do appreciate your sharing your thoughts because we all need to have our points of view challenged on a regular basis. You've made me think--at least that's my opinion. You'll have to decide for yourself if even that's true. [NightListener]

CHRIST-KILLERS!!!
|
Well said! If we look around the world, genocide perpetrated against one group of people by another is unfortunately widespread. You are addressing specifically antisemitism. So often the intolerance and hatred toward people who are different comes first. Justifications often follow as rationalizations. When people are motivated to hate, they often are not interested in listening to reason. Still you gave it a valiant try. I have a sense that people who hate curse themselves because the waves we send out are the ones that wash back on shore to envelop us. The world doesn't need more hatred. People who generate hatred are not free from the consequences of living in a world where hatred rules.[NightListener]

My opinion on the theory of evolution
|
Thanks for a thoughtful presentation of your perspective on a wide range of considerations. You certainly make an effort to remain balanced in your thinking. You make many good points without seeming to have much of an axe to grind. Motivations vary. At times science, philosophy, and theology are all abused one way or another. But then when we want to try to understand our motivations and those of others, it's nice to be able to reach into one of those disciplines for something to hang our thoughts on at the time. Over time I don't necessarily agree or disagree with anything you've said, although at any particular moment in my continuous transformations, I might. I wonder at times if God can ever be insulted, since God's wisdom being infinite, God would see beyond the "insult" to the struggle behind it. But maybe you are right since God, in seeing our motivations, knows the wrong we do for what it is. Certainly not everyone means well. [NightListener]

Thank you for your lovely comments. By the way I absolutely adore Denise Williams song "Let's Hear It for the boy". It is one of my favourite songs. Pity I don't have a boy to dedicate it to. I am still on that search for "a boy" lol. Everyone I meet seems to think that I am too sweet and too good and deserving of more. So I'm just sad and lonely. :)

so you'r life has just begun? I'm 30 going on 31 and feel like my time is running out for some things in this life, considering I am a woman I believe in the Trinity, that's how I was brought up and I have never lost my beliefs. I don't know where I'd be without my faith in God. It keeps me going [eagle]

This is a good argument. I never really heard that Jesus was not God until I heard and read Adaman's diary; but you, I more or less believe like you do.
You know what? I don't think that it matters. There are a lot of things in the Bible that we will never know for sure until we finally meet God. [SteeleBlack]

I think you need to be careful with your opinions and perhaps wait until you are better informed to spout them. That is not a hateful comment, just a caution. I actually agree with you on several points, but not in your conclusion. I highly recommend Ignorant Armies by Gwynne Dyer, as he explains all of this very well. "Also George W. Bush is responsible for the fact that women can go to work and girls can go to school in Afghanistan, he liberated them by sending our forces over there to get rid of the taliban." For starters, Bush is not wholly responsible for this. The UN is since it was a UN mission and not a solely American mission. A lot of countries were involved on different levels and still are. That said it was a primarily American force that went in, they did it right and had good results. Iraq is a different matter. "And if George Herbert Walker Bush had finished what he started in the Persian Gulf War by invading Iraq and capturing Saddam Hussein then his son would not have had to deal with it a decade later." George Bush Senior is very smart man who had good advisors and who understood foreign policy. He avoided a military blunder by not "finishing things." (see book I mentioned for details) "Political conservatives are NOT the same as the taliban, most believe in racial and gender equality and the right to vote." I agree with you. I think I'll leave the rest of what you said alone because on those subject I am uninformed. I really suggest you read that book. He explains international relations and military strategy in terms normal people can understand. [Karmaisdvine]

This reminds me of a couple of things. I used to belong to this bible study group. The teacher would yell from the pulpit telling young girls and women to cover up. This would frustrate me to no end, because you can't blame under dressed woman for being ogled or rape. The person that is in the wrong is the person that lusts after them. People who rape don't just target attractive people. They also pick the elderly and children and those who cannot defend themselves.
So, no matter how you're dressed, if someone wants to target you for rape, it will happen, even if a female is dressed in sweats with her greasy hair. I think it's good that the US holds rapists accountable and I like the hefty sentences they recieve too. I struggled with issues of lust. Cars, houses, people, clothes. You name it, I lusted after it. It's not the fault of the objects that I lust after, so objects aren't evil. It's the person that uses or beholds them. I used to think it impossible not to lust. Gouging out your eyes, or cutting off your hands doesn't solve the problem. It's the heart of the beholder that is the problem. It's a shame that cultures don't understand that. [SteeleBlack]

There're killing us part two
|
I will keep you in my prayers. It is so hard to be a christian these days. There is so much temptation. I have, almost, given up. And I don't say that lightly. I've been struggling with christianity since I was 14 or so. If you are young you will struggle with carnality.
I don't have any shame when it comes to my writing, though it might not benefit you. I don't think that it will hurt to read a little bit of it, and then when you get to the intimate parts you can decide whether it's too much for you or not. [SteeleBlack]

Wow. That's an interesting thing to know about diet soda. I drink it because I like it... I read someplace that it really isn't helpful in making a person lose weight either, because it increases the desire to eat, anyway... and I really believe that. People should always be careful what they consume into their bodies, anyway... Whether it be literally or "figuratively". [Stepi]

I hate to be negative but I will be anyway. People will do what they want no matter what you teach them. Think of those who rebel because they had a strict up bringing and then think of others who become productive citizens even though they come from a dysfunctional home.
